“Information technology is a foundational infrastructure that keeps the university moving towards its mission as a land-grant university.”
Marc I. Hoit
Chief Information Officer
The past year has brought considerable shifts to higher education, impacting funding structures and planned outcomes. While NC State’s strong ties to engineering, agriculture and state economic development have provided some resilience, we are not immune to these changes. Our institution benefits from a diversified research portfolio, comprehensive engagement across all North Carolina counties and the provision of specialized knowledge and education to individuals, industries and state leadership. With approximately 80% of our undergraduate student body originating from within the state, NC State is a vital contributor to transforming North Carolina’s college-bound students into a crucial economic asset.
Information technology plays an ever increasing role in advancing NC State’s mission: “[NC State] is dedicated to excellent teaching, the creation and application of knowledge and engagement with public and private partners” Over the past year, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has collaborated on and led a number of forward-thinking initiatives while working to maintain the vital infrastructure the campus community depends on.
As you read through this annual report, you will see the variety, scope and scale of what our partners and OIT envision, support and operationalize. These are only a few of the key activities that keep NC State running smoothly. Information technology is a foundational infrastructure like classrooms and laboratories that keeps the university moving towards its mission as a land-grant university. Highlights of the scope of OIT’s activities include:
$220M in new research funding associated with users of high performance computing (HPC)
50,236 wired outlets,10,860 wireless access points and 12,679 phone lines
31,565 NC State Help Desk resolved incidents
1,875,448 technology items were maintained in OIT’s Configuration Management Database
1.1 million IT security role and access assignments were managed
541,005 webpages in 84 campus units were assessed for accessibility.
Please look over the report and give a shout out to people you know who are providing the key services needed to make the university run seamlessly. The OIT team is passionate about their work and their primary goal is to empower others to achieve their objectives and support NC State.
Thanks to all our partners who make our work and efforts possible.
