Beyond Compliance: NC State’s Mission for Accessible Digital Experiences

NC State is actively working to meet the updated Title II ADA digital accessibility requirements, with a compliance deadline of April 2026. This campuswide effort is spearheaded by the Office of Information Technology (OIT), with Rebecca Sitton serving as the university’s digital accessibility coordinator, leading initiatives to educate and inform the community of their legal responsibilities in the digital space and provide resources to ensure digital content meets WCAG 2.1AA guidelines. Digital accessibility is paramount because access to our digital spaces ensures that higher education remains a gateway to opportunity and innovation for everyone. Without accessibility, digital tools and materials can become barriers rather than bridges.

Accessibility is a shared responsibility that involves faculty, administrators, staff, and students. OIT provides various opportunities to enhance digital accessibility skills through in-person, virtual, and on-demand training.

In collaboration with the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) and the Provost’s office, a new accessibility hub website with digital accessibility resources will be introduced this fall.
