NC State’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides campus-wide computing, information, communication and collaboration services in support of the university’s academic and administrative goals.

Our Units

OIT has a staff of 299 employees in seven units:

  • Business Services
    Budget management, accounting, procurement, human resources, and asset management
  • Communication Technologies
    Campus data network, infrastructure design and installation, data center management, firewalls, unified communications, telephone, campus operators, and video services
  • Enterprise Application Services
    Advancement, business intelligence, application configuration management, finance, human resources, identity and access management, MyPack Portal, database administration, non-credit, research administration and student information systems
  • Outreach, Communications and Consulting
    Training and outreach, communications, IT accessibility, website content management, business capability and process automation, IT business continuity and disaster recovery, portfolio and project management, Google Workspace, PackTV, WolfBytes Radio and TV, and media production
  • Security and Compliance
    Cybersecurity strategy and roadmap, secure computing, security consulting and education, security incident response and investigation, security policy and compliance, and software licensing
  • Shared Services
    Virtual Computing Lab, High-Performance Computing, research IT, middleware and application integration, storage, file services and backup, directory services, and deployment of infrastructure and core services
  • Technology Support Services
    NC State Help Desk, OIT Walk-in Center, ResNet, ClassTech, OIT Managed Desktop, ServiceNow, hosted services, IT service management tools and support, student computing services, Secure University Research Environment (SURE) service for secure research workstations, and desktop and end-user support

Our Budget

OIT’s budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 was $75 million, with personnel accounting for 54 percent and operating costs accounting for 46 percent. The budget included carry-forward funds from last year and one-time funding from the university. OIT received $9 million in one-time funds for campus software licenses, infrastructure refresh, data center hosting services, and SURE and NIST compliance.
